Volotea celebrates its millionth passenger in Athens

The winner received a year-long free flights prize 
In 2020, Volotea will offer more than half a million seats to 14 destinations in Athens

Volotea, one of the fastest-growing independent airlines in Europe, started operating in Athens in 2015 and in four years has already reached its first millionth passenger at the Greek capital. The airline has celebrated this achievement with an event at Athens main terminal where the passenger was awarded with one year of free flights. 
Kalliopi Papanastou, was the lucky passenger for the airline and was flying from Athens to Heraklion. She was awarded with a year-long free flights prize to any Volotea destination from Athens. 
Since Volotea started operations in Athens in 2015, the airline has been successfully increasing its customers year-on-year. Since the launch of the base on May 2018, Volotea has enhanced its offer, adding new destinations and creating 55 local jobs. Two Boeing 717 aircraft are based at Athens airport. 


The new routes will be operated as follows: 
-  Marseille: From 4th April, 18,000 seats, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
-  Lyon: From 13th April, 18,000 seats, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
-  Split: From 13th April, 15,000 seats, Wednesdays and Sundays.
-  Cagliari: From 25th May, 11,000 seats, Mondays and Fridays.

In 2020 Volotea will offer 580,000 seats increasing its capacity by 11% and will serve from Athens a line-up of fourteen destinations: four domestic routes (Santorini, Mykonos, Heraklion and Rhodes), five destinations in Italy (Venice, Bari, Genoa, Verona and Cagliari), two city pairs to Croatia (Dubrovnik and Split) and three to France (Strasbourg, Lyon and Marseille).
