New ski route from East Midlands Airport

Winter sports enthusiasts heading to the Alps have even more choice of destinations this winter thanks to Jet2.com’s new route to Grenoble from East Midlands Airport.

It means that many of Europe’s largest and most famous ski regions are all within easy reach of the East Midlands with flights to Geneva, Chambery, Sofia (Bulgaria), Salzburg, Bergamo (Italy) and now Grenoble.

Heavy snowfalls have already been reported in the southern Alps and, with some ski flights starting this coming weekend, skiers and boarders will be hoping to book soon.

For those who like covering a lot of ground on either skis or a snowboard, both Chambery and Grenoble are ideally located for access to the likes of vast resorts such as the Paridiski area (Les Arcs/La Plagne), Espace Killy (Tignes/Val d’Isere) plus Meribel, Val Thorens and the Trois Vallee. All offer high altitude skiing, guaranteed snow and a variety of terrain suiting all abilities.

From Geneva, famous northern French resorts easily accessible within a 90 min drive include the Portes du Soleil (Morzine/Avoriaz) Chamonix and the Grande Massif (Samoens and Morillion).

Austria boasts some of the most charming and attractive resorts in Europe. From Salzburg, there is a wide choice suiting all abilities including the likes of Hochkönig, Schladming-Dachstein, Zell am See-Kaprun and the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, one of the country’s premier ski resorts.

Only 50 minutes from Milan Bergamo, Presolana and nearby Monte Pora are ideal for shorter breaks while Montecampione, which sits above the picturesque Camonica valley that sweeps up from Lake Iseo towards Switzerland, is neighboured by the town of Boario Terme, famous for its thermal waters.

Skiing in Bulgaria continues to grow in popularity especially among families and beginners. The slightly smaller resorts are often quieter than the larger ski areas in the French, Italian and Austrian Alps, which are ideal for those taking to the slopes for the first time.

Operators serving Europe’s ski season from EMA this year are Jet2.com, Crystal Ski, Balkan Holidays and Ryanair.

Heidi Barlow, EMA’s head of marketing says: “What better way to brighten up your winter and burn off those Christmas calories than in the fresh air under bright blue skies and on dazzling white snow? With so much choice of places to ski for all abilities and within easy reach of a flight from EMA, now is the best time to book a trip to the slopes.”
