Flexjet’s Aspen World Snow Polo Championship Experience, the Only One of Its Kind in North America

-Flexjet LLC, a global leader in fractional private jet travel, today announced an exciting snow polo sponsorship. The company is an official sponsor of the 2019 Aspen World Snow Polo Championship to be held December 18-20, 2019. In addition, Flexjet will sponsor the Flexjet Polo Team, led by Melissa Ganzi, throughout 2020.

“Polo has long been called the sport of kings, and it is a passion of many of our Owners,” said Megan Wolf, Flexjet Chief Operating Officer. “We are pleased to sponsor the Aspen World Snow Polo Championship, the final stop on the yearlong polo circuit and the only event of its kind in North America. It’s a wonderful opportunity for polo fans to have a quick getaway before the holidays in one of the most beautiful places in the world, and has become a seasonal tradition among many of our Owners.” Wolf noted that this is Flexjet’s sixth year sponsoring the event.

Added Wolf, “We also are pleased to sponsor the Flexjet Polo Team for the sixth season. The team epitomizes the commitment to excellence and performance that drives Flexjet, and we look forward to them having a great showing in Aspen this month and on the professional polo circuit in 2020.”

The World Snow Polo Championship annually draws a high-profile audience of polo fans from around the world to Aspen to view some of the world’s finest players. Each year, more Flexjet Owners travel to Aspen from locations across the globe as the festival’s popularity continues to increase.

The event begins on December 18, with competition at the Aspen Valley Polo Club and Rio Grande Park on each of the next three days, climaxing with the final on December 20. The championship match will be followed by a VIP party in the heated tent adjacent to the snow-covered polo field. Flexjet Owners will have exclusive access to all events.

Flexjet’s commitment to providing its Owners with access to snow polo in Aspen is among the curated experiences and benefits available only to its Owners, which range from access to exclusive events such as the World Snow Polo Championship to entrée to extraordinary vintners, hotels and lifestyle brands.

The Flexjet Polo Team will be among six teams competing in this year’s World Snow Polo Championship. Founded in 2014, the team won the 2016 Aspen World Snow Polo Championship. Captained by Melissa Ganzi, who has led winning teams at snow polo competitions in both Aspen and St. Moritz, Switzerland, the team competes at high-goal polo events around the country throughout the year. Ganzi and her husband, Marc, are prominent owners and players in the polo community, and founded the Aspen Valley Polo Club, which hosts the World Snow Polo Championship.

Snow polo is a winter variation of the game and was first played in 1985 in St. Moritz. Snow polo adapts the game for wintry conditions, with a smaller field, three-player teams, cleated horseshoes for better traction and a larger, lighter ball colored red for visibility.

Aspen and St. Moritz are only two of the renowned winter sports venues at which snow polo is played. The sport also is played in other venues including Bariloche, Argentina and Cortina, Italy. These destinations can be reached directly from North America via Flexjet’s fleet of long-range private jets including the Bombardier Global Express, the Gulfstream G450 and the Gulfstream G650. All of these aircraft are available through Flexjet’s premium Red Label offering.

In addition, Flexjet recently placed orders totaling $2.6 billion for the new Embraer Praetor family of aircraft and Gulfstream G700.

TIPS TO MAKE THE MOST OUT OF YOUR SNOW POLO ADVENTURE

VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE
The scene around this championship is more than just hot cocoa and earmuffs. There’s something for everybody from family-friendly events to late-night underground clubs.

BABY, IT'S COLD OUT HERE
It’s December, it’s Aspen and you’re going to be spending a lot of time outside. So bundle up, with layering for when you’re indoors. Choose boots with warm lining and hats that cover your ears.

WHEN IN ROME...
There isn’t a better time or place for fur. And you wouldn’t be alone if you wore yours. Fur hats, fur coats, fur mittens.

SUNNIES REQUIRED
In the mountains, with those beautiful clear skies, you’re going to need to protect yourself from the sun. Bring and wear your sunglasses and use sunblock and lip balm – early and often.

THESE BOOTS WERE MADE FOR WALKIN’
Not only do you want your boots to keep your tootsies warm, but you’ll want boots that also are easy to walk in. You’ll be spending a lot of time on your feet and walking.

ALTITUDE GOT YOU DOWN?
Adjusting to the mile-high altitude may be rough at first. Drink lots of water and take advantage of the oxygen bar at the St. Regis Aspen Resort.

CELEBRATING WINS AND GOOD TIMES
We fully anticipate the Flexjet Polo Team will be a winner, so you’ll probably want to celebrate with some bubbly. Don’t miss the sabering ceremony, in which a sword is used to open a champagne bottle, that’s a specialty at the St. Regis Aspen Resort. It makes the sound of a champagne cork popping much more dramatic.

DON’T JUST BE FLOWN; BE MOVED
No need to fly to Denver and drive three hours to the mountains. Flexjet’s fleet of fractionally owned private jets from Gulfstream, Bombardier and Embraer can land polo enthusiasts minutes from the action at Aspen/Pitkin County Airport.
