Delta opened its Atlanta Military Lounge for the 50th time last week......

Thanks to hundreds of Delta volunteers, the lounge at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta airport offers rest and relaxation to 15,000 to 20,000 military service members and their families each year.

Delta opened its Atlanta Military Lounge for the 50th time last week, providing a space for military members and their families to relax and recharge while travelling through the Atlanta airport this holiday season. Each year, the lounge opens to an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 visitors who might have a long layover or heading home for the holidays.

"The space provides our troops with an opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of the airport as they prepare for the next step of their journey," said Matt Sparks, Vice President – Airport Operations. "This is just one way we can show a token of appreciation and to thank them for their service and sacrifice."

Lounge visitors and their families can enjoy movies, play video games and create holiday crafts to pass the time during their wait at the airport. There is also a resting space for guests looking to catch up on a few hours of sleep during their journey.

This environment is made possible thanks to the hundreds of volunteers and partners that provide fresh baked goods, fruits, vegetables and beverages, and donate their time to staff the lounge for guests each year.

Many Delta teams pitch in to support the Airport Customer Service team, including TechOps, one of the lounge's biggest champions. This year, TechOps donated $2,000 to the Atlanta Military Lounge to help provide amenities to visitors.

"It's all about family," said Charles Davis, an active member of the U.S. Military visiting the lounge Thursday. "It means so much to have a place to catch your breath while being able to spend time with family during such a busy travel season."

Signs are located throughout the airport to help spread awareness and guide military personnel to the lounge, which can be found in Concourse E, across from the Delta Sky Club at Gate E14.

The Atlanta Military Lounge will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day of the week, until Sunday, Jan. 5.
