Aeroflot Receives Innovation Time 2019 Award for its "Tax Monitoring Data Mart" Digital Project

Aeroflot won the annual Innovation Time 2019 award in the category “IT and digital technologies”. The prestigious award was granted to the project “Tax Monitoring Data Mart”, which was developed by the airline and recognized as the organizational and managerial innovation of the year. The award ceremony for the independent award recognizing the best projects and practices for the development and implementation of innovations across various fields was held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Aeroflot launched the digital platform “Data Mart” in 2018 in order to improve its reporting process with the Russian tax authorities. The project was implemented in cooperation with the Federal Tax Service (FTS) of the Russian Federation, whose specialists received online access to detailed transcripts of Aeroflot’s tax and accounting statements, including its earliest documents. The digital platform also enables the monitoring of tax return preparations and the results of control procedures, as well as providing information about budget accruals.

In addition to improving the quality of information provided to the FTS, the introduction of the “Data Mart” confirms that Aeroflot is a reliable and responsible taxpayer with transparent and open business practices. The project also allowed the Company to significantly reduce its outgoings. In 2018, the number of requests for relevant documents from tax authorities decreased by 33%, while the number of paper documents prepared for the FTS decreased fourfold. The Company reduced the allocated preparation time for annual tax reports by two months.

The project “Tax Monitoring Data Mart” has already received several prestigious awards, including a joint PwC and RUIE award for Tax Project of the Year and a Global CIO award in the category “IT for financial services”. In 2019, the Head of Russia’s Federal Tax Service Mikhail Mishustin and Aeroflot CEO Vitaly Saveliev presented the “Tax Monitoring Data Mart” to Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.

Aeroflot was able to quickly implement the “Data Mart” project thanks to the high degree of digitalisation within the Company. The Russian carrier maintains its ranking as fourth among all global airlines in terms of digitalisation in a rating by Bain & Company. The company intends to further develop the project, including through artificial intelligence technologies.
