Shiju Thomas appointed Chief Information Officer of Air Italy

Air Italy has released news that Shiju Thomas has been appointed its Chief Information Officer from  November 8th, 2019. Thomas joins the Italian airline with more than 24 years of information technology (IT) experience in the aviation industry.  In the new role, he will be leading the airline’s Digital Transformation and overseeing all IT needs at Air Italy.

Air Italy Chief Operating Officer Rossen Dimitrov said: "With the ever-increasing importance of digital across every sphere of our lives, it is vital that we continue with our own digital transformation across all parts of the business, and I’m very pleased to be able to welcome Shiju to the Air Italy team. “With more than 24 years of IT experience in multiple major airlines, Shiju’s skills, knowledge and rich experience will undoubtedly enable Air Italy to rapidly fast-forward our digital capabilities, as we innovate in all parts of our business both internally and externally.



“These developments will lead to more consistent, secure, robust, data-driven, user-friendly, simplified and efficient processes and interfaces for all stakeholders, all of which will help us become a better airline, and I look forward to working with Shiju as we begin this transformative journey.”

Mr Thomas holds a Masters in Computer Applications from Gujarat, India, and has certifications in various IT and leadership areas. After an initial two years of software development in leading tech companies in India, he joined Emirates airline.

During his 13 years with Emirates Group, Mr Thomas was responsible for leading the delivery of IT projects across the airline as well as leading Product Implementation for a multitude of projects with 15+ airlines which included British Airways, Singapore Airlines, Swiss, and Virgin Atlantic.

In 2009 he joined Qatar Airways where he was Vice President for Information Services until 2019, leading Digital initiatives and major projects across the Qatar Airways Group where he team developed and deployed over 100+ new business systems.
