Icelandair has finalised its flight schedule for 2020. The schedule includes 40 destinations and one new destination to Europe is expected to be announced in the next few weeks. The total seat capacity is estimated 5.1 million seats and the total number of passengers is estimated to reach 4.2 million next year.
In 2020, the Company will continue its current focus of increasing the number of passengers to and from Iceland. This year, Icelandair has transported more passengers to Iceland than ever before, or over 1.6 million in the first 10 months of the year, which is a 26% increase from the year 2019.
The frequency of flights to Europe is expected to increase by 2% from last year. Frequency of flights will be increased to Copenhagen, Helsinki, Berlin, Zurich, Madrid and Milan. On the other hand, frequency will be decreased to some destinations, such as Paris, Frankfurt and Hamburg.
The seat capacity to North America will decrease by 11% compared to 2019, mainly because of the cancellation of flights to San Francisco, Kansas City and Tampa as has already been announced. Frequency will also be decreased to certain destinations in North America to respond to market developments. Icelandair’s total seat capacity will decrease by 4.8% from 2019 but, the above-mentioned changes within the route network and the focus of the Company’s sales and marketing activities on the market to Iceland are expected to contribute to increasing the number of tourists to Iceland.
Icelandair expects the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft back into service in March 2020.
