oneworld and Iberia celebrate the 20th anniversary of the alliance in Madrid

one world and Iberia have celebrated the 20th anniversary of the air alliance in Madrid, at a time when the alliance continues its transformation with the aim of offering a better value proposition to its customers and member airlines.

The CEO of one world, Rob Gurney, and the executive president of Iberia, Luis Gallego, wanted to celebrate this anniversary with the presentation of a new A320neo of Iberia, decorated with the livery of the alliance. Gurney and Gallego also met with employees of the Spanish airline to tell them about the initiatives that one world has launched on the occasion of the celebration of its 20th anniversary. Among them, there is a digital platform that will allow alliance customers to check-in and get their boarding pass through their one world airline when they travel in connection with different airlines in the alliance.

Iberia is one of the oldest members of one world, which it joined in September 1999, shortly after it was created by American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Qantas.

Iberia flies to 137 destinations in 47 countries, which are included in the 1,100 destinations in 180 countries of the oneworld network. In 2018, eight million passengers travelled in connection on flights operated by the airlines of the alliance with revenues of 5.5 billion dollars.

One world airlines operate about 14,000 daily flights with a joint fleet of 3,500 aircraft. An alliance plane takes off or lands every five seconds.
