Autumn short break travel is a boon from East Midlands Airport

As the days draw in, Autumn is the ideal time of year for city and shorter breaks. With a range of domestic and European destinations within just two hours of departing East Midlands Airport (EMA), travellers in this region have a lot of choices.

Well worth a visit are:
the Highlands and Islands of Scotland (one hour to Inverness with Loganair)
Berlin (two hours with Ryanair)
Prague (two hours 15 mins with Jet2.com)
Guernsey (one hour 15 mins with Aurigny)

EMA’s official summer season continues to the end of October and many passengers flying through the airport are taking advantage of a quieter period now that schools have returned.

Turkey, Southern Europe, the Balearics and the Canaries are all popular destinations at this time of year where warm temperatures can still be found and the beaches a little less crowded. For those storing up leave for Christmas, shorter three or four-night breaks to these places might suit with operators such as TUI.

Beth Brewster, EMA’s Commercial and Transformational Director, says: “Whether it’s climbing the Giants Causeway in Belfast, exploring the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, soaking up the sun in Fuerteventura or planning a marriage proposal in Prague, a short trip helps recharge the batteries. And because EMA is so easy to get to from every direction, you could enjoy the local delights of somewhere new in a matter of hours this Autumn.”

The appetite for overseas holidays remained undiminished in August and September with East Midlands Airport passenger numbers remaining almost identical to last year; 1,156,154 compared with 1,154, 916 for the same months in 2018.

During summer many airlines reported excellent ‘load factors’ (the percentage of seats taken on each aircraft). Flights to Heraklion, Tunisia, Bourgas, Dalaman, Paphos, Antalya, Tenerife and Gran Canaria were consistently 100 per cent full throughout August.
