Singapore Airlines starts non-stop Seattle service

Singapore Airlines (SIA) continues its expansion of non-stop services to the US with the departure of flight SQ28 from Singapore to Seattle yesterday morning.

The flight departed Changi International Airport on 3 September 2019 at 0927hrs (SIN time) and is scheduled to arrive at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on the same day, at 0905hrs (US Pacific time).

Customers departing from Singapore received an exclusive goodie bag containing items such as a commemorative certificate, SIA batik pen and passport cover as well as a mini notepad featuring the Seattle skyline. Customers also had the opportunity to take photos with the cabin crew at the boarding gate. Upon arrival in Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the aircraft will be receiving a water cannon salute.

Seattle is the fourth US destination after Los Angeles, New York (Newark) and San Francisco to be served non-stop from Singapore. The Seattle flights will initially be operated three times weekly before increasing to four times weekly in October 2019, bringing the total number of weekly non-stop Singapore-US services to 31. When combined with SIA’s existing one-stop services to Houston, Los Angeles, New York (JFK) and San Francisco, total US service frequency will increase to 57 per week.

The new Seattle services will further strengthen the Singapore hub by providing customers faster and more convenient connectivity from key markets such as Southeast Asia, South Asia and Australasia to North America.

Airbus A350-900 aircraft fitted with 42 Business Class, 24 Premium Economy Class and 187 Economy Class seats are used on the route. With advanced technology and superior operating efficiency, the A350-900 offers customers an improved travelling experience with features such as higher ceilings, larger windows, an extra wide body and cabin lighting designed to reduce jetlag.

The Seattle services are the latest among SIA’s US non-stop flights to offer wellness initiatives from Canyon Ranch, a premiere integrated wellness brand. These include sleep strategies and guided stretching exercises accessible via the KrisWorld in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, as well as special cuisines curated by Canyon Ranch’s chefs and nutritionists. The cuisines are offered on top of SIA’s own meal selections and creations by its International Culinary Panel of chefs.

Customers using the KrisWorld IFE system on board most SIA flights1 in the month of September will enjoy a special mix of movies, music and TV shows which reference Seattle. More information can be found in the September issue of KrisWorld magazine available in hardcopy in-flight, or softcopy via the SIA website (https://bit.ly/2BIP5oE) and mobile app.

From 3-14 September 2019, customers travelling in Premium Economy and Economy classes on the Seattle flights can enjoy complimentary 30MB WiFi text messaging2. Currently, on selected aircraft types, Suites and First Class passengers enjoy unlimited complimentary WiFi, while Business Class passengers, PPS Club members and supplementary cardholders enjoy complimentary 100MB. Audio remix

To commemorate the launch of non-stop flights to Seattle with the release of a new music track featuring ambient sounds collected from the aircraft type operating these flights – the Airbus A350-900. The track, a creative collaboration between SIA and Seattle-based artist Chong the Nomad, is part of an SIA campaign titled “Seattle Sounds Even Better Now”.

“Seattle is known for its rich music scene and is home to major musical influences such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Jimi Hendrix. With the launch of our first flights to Seattle, we wanted to have a little fun and pay a contemporary tribute to this heritage by creating a music track that’s completely one-of-a-kind,” said Mr Campbell Wilson, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing, Singapore Airlines.

“Working alongside up-and-coming producer and beatsmith, Chong the Nomad, we’ve created a brand new track by remixing sounds collected directly from our Airbus A350, and we’re excited to share with everyone the final product of this innovative and playful collaboration.”

The instrumental track, titled “Non-Stop”, features a seamless arrangement of A350 aircraft and cabin sounds, many of which are recognisable to regular flyers – the roar of the engine, clink clinks from silverware, the seatbelt click, the ding of the flight attendant button and even the familiar welcoming voice of the Singapore Girl. Other sounds, including taps on the tyres of the A350’s nose-wheel or the whirrs and ratchets of cockpit controls, are embedded in the mix as beats and bass. The sounds are mixed with Chong’s signature pop-electronic style.

The song is available for free listening on Spotify at https://spoti.fi/2kjni88.
