Loganair jet services between East Midlands, Inverness and Brussels commenced today, September 2nd, as the airline is welcomed as the newest operator from the region’s airport.
The first of the flights to take off was to the Belgian Capital of Brussels at 06:55 this morning.
The UK’s longest operating airline is recommencing the route after it was lost some months ago when flybmi ceased operations earlier this year.
Both the East Midlands and Brussels have close ties in the manufacturing sector, including Toyota Europe HQ being based in Brussels and Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK based in Derby, which employs over 3000 members in the Midlands.
In response to the calls from the business community, Loganair and East Midlands Airport have stepped in to secure the routes future, with the backing of the business community.
The schedules provide early morning and afternoon flights to Brussels between Monday and Thursday as well as afternoon services on Friday and Sunday, allowing convenient day-return options for business and well-timed weekend flights for those looking to explore the grand European City that is also home to famous beer, waffles and chocolate.
Another new route took to the skies in the afternoon, to Scotland’s Highland Capital -Inverness. There are also strong business links between the two regions - with Inverness currently ranked as Scotland’s fastest growing city.
Furthermore, it now means those living in the midlands can reach the dramatic Highlands of Scotland in just over an hour, as opposed to the previous eight to 10 hour road or rail journey; Thus a short break in the UK’s largest national park (the Cairngorms) or a trip to Loch Ness is now easier than ever before.
For those looking to explore more of the country, Loganair also offers convenient onward connections via Inverness to Orkney, Shetland and Stornoway (the Isle of Lewis).
Across all its routes Loganair provides 20kg of complimentary baggage allowance, in-flight refreshments and the option to join Clan Loganair – the airline’s competitive reward programme for frequent flyers. Business travellers can also opt for several different fare products, offering a range of flexibility as required.

This demonstrates what is possible with the right business backing.”
Christine Cooke, Procurement Senior Manager at Toyota, which has bases in both Brussels and the East Midlands region says: “Toyota UK has very close ties with our Head Office in Brussels which necessitate two-way traffic on a frequent basis. Having a reliable, convenient and efficient route is key to us and the new EMA flight will be good for us in terms of maintaining those links.”
