Financially troubled Icelandair to drop routes to San Francisco and Kansas City

The troubled Icelandic airline Icelandair has confirmed it will be dropping San Francisco and Kansas City routes from its home base of Keflavík Airport in 2020.

The airline has stated the reason to axe the routes was to improve the profitability of the firm as well as the continued grounding of the Boeing 737 Max aircraft.   Icelandair has indicated it is looking into other new US gateways, but as yet no has yet been made.

Sources in Iceland have told local media that it is only a matter of days before the carrier announces cuts to its European route network as it struggles to cut costs and fights for more compensation from Boeing over the 737 Max aircraft.
