Delta adds new Rome service, celebrates all Terminal A gate operations at Logan Airport

Boston’s No. 1 global carrier boosts trans-Atlantic seats by more than 30 percent in 2020, including new service to London-Gatwick and Manchester, and second daily Paris service
This month, the airline assumes operations at all gates at Logan's Terminal A, growing Delta's airport footprint ahead of launching service to additional domestic markets

Delta is continuing to build on a memorable year in Boston with the announcement of new summer service between Boston and Rome, part of the airline’s 2020 plans for expanded flying from three of the airline’s hubs to 10 popular trans-Atlantic destinations.

The new flights were announced at Logan International Airport as Delta, which recently designated Boston as its newest hub, officially assumed operations at all gates in Logan’s Terminal A, making the airline the terminal’s sole operator for the first time since the facility opened in 2005.

“Boston is a tremendous international city, and Delta’s ongoing investments here are delivering a truly world-class experience from ground to air,” said Delta CEO Ed Bastian. “From offering more international seats out of Boston than any other carrier to being the only airline at Logan with a fully dedicated terminal, we’re continuing to set ourselves apart for customers in ways that only Delta and our nearly 2,000 Boston-based Delta people can.”

“We are pleased with Delta’s increasing presence in Massachusetts and its continued contributions to driving economic growth and development in the Commonwealth,” said Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker. “These new flights to and from Logan Airport will serve Massachusetts’ growing economy well, and we look forward to working together to see continued progress and development.”

Boston’s fastest-growing global carrier, now with more gates in Terminal A

Delta’s expanded presence in Logan Airport’s Terminal A supports the airline’s network growth over the past several years and positions it for more flying yet to come. In 2020, Delta will launch four new trans-Atlantic flights from Boston, including new seasonal service to Rome, the carrier’s second daily flight to Paris and new service to London-Gatwick and Manchester. The carrier will also extend seasonal service between Boston and Edinburgh and Lisbon, two popular destinations added in 2019.

Additionally, Delta has nearly doubled its daily departures out of Boston since 2015. Later this month, Delta will launch new service to Chicago O'Hare, Newark-Liberty and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport beginning Sept. 29, 2019.

“It’s a great time to be a Delta customer in Boston. In addition to offering the most comprehensive schedule of any U.S. carrier across the Atlantic, we’ve invested significantly in our aircraft, service and products for customers traveling between the U.S. and Europe.” said Charlie Schewe, Director of Northeast Sales. “Now those investments are reflected on our larger gate footprint at Logan Airport as well.”

Terminal A is the only terminal at Logan to offer CLEAR and the only airport facility with multiple club locations for a single airline. One of those Delta Sky Clubs will expand significantly by early next year to include new showers, which will open later this fall, as well as additional seating and a reimagined food and beverage area. Meanwhile, the gate areas are being refreshed with a modern look and feel to include new carpet, new seating and finishes, and more power. And Massport is partnering with Delta to implement a range of new food and beverage concepts throughout the facility.

“Delta continues to be a great partner,” said Massport CEO Lisa Wieland. “Their growing presence at Logan Airport offers more choices for our passengers, including their new service to Rome.”

Altogether, Delta and its partners serve more than 50 destinations from Logan International, offering customers the most international seats with flights to up to 18 international destinations. In 2018, Delta launched flights connecting Boston with Lisbon and Edinburgh, KLM increased Amsterdam service, Virgin Atlantic added a daytime Heathrow flight, and Korean Air launched service to Seoul-Incheon.

The largest airline across the Atlantic

Delta offers more flights connecting the U.S. and Europe than any other carrier and plans to add about 780,000 additional seats in 2020, with expanded service from two other airline hubs to 10 trans-Atlantic destinations, including double-digit growth in international flying out of JFK and new daytime London-Heathrow service planned for next year.

Beginning this winter, all of Delta’s flights connecting Heathrow with Boston and New York will be operated using the carrier’s newly retrofitted Boeing 767-400 aircraft, featuring all four branded seat products including a more private Delta One experience.

And beginning in 2020, all of Delta’s trans-Atlantic flights over six and a half hours will feature the carrier’s premium Delta One experience, which includes a dedicated in-cabin flight attendant; a 180-degree flat-bed seat; extra-wide inflight entertainment screens; and seasonally rotating, chef-designed Delta One menus with the option to pre-select first choice of entrée, paired with wines hand-selected by Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson
