Unite union calls a halt to Tuesday's strike at London Heathrow Airport

The Unite union has called a halt to its strike action at London Heathrow Airport scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, following a pay deal offer from the airport.

Around 6000 workers at the UK's busiest airport had been due to strike for two days, Monday and Tuesday, but late on Sunday evening, the strike was suspended for Monday to allow last-ditch talks to take place. Now following those talks, the industrial action for Tuesday has also been called off.

Unite and Heathrow have reached agreement over an improved pay rise which Unite will now put this latest off to its members for consideration.  A spokesman for the airport said, "Unite will now take an improved offer to its members and we remain hopeful that we can find a resolution and stop this disruptive and unnecessary threat of strike action."

The union confirmed the new pay offer would be put to members but also warned that two further days of industrial action scheduled for 23rd and 24th August, "remained on the table until the result of the ballot was known".
