Connecting the world through education

Igniting the spark and lighting the path for the next generation

Delta's tagline is "Keep Climbing" — our verbal commitment to constantly strive to connect the world in better ways and to more destinations. Our mission applies to travel, but it also involves connecting our employees to local communities where we live, work and serve. Giving back is core to Delta's culture and advancing education is one of our key strategic community pillars as we continue to build a pipeline of talent for the next generation of Delta employees and customers, while giving students the tools to achieve their personal goals and find success.

As students head back to school, Delta's Community Engagement is focused on helping them succeed through partnerships with a variety of educationally focused organizations.

"Supporting education is one of our top pillars of Community Engagement at Delta," said Tad Hutcheson, Managing Director of Community Engagement. "Igniting the spark of learning in students and lighting the path by providing new and innovative ways to teach and reach them is a major part of our mission of serving communities globally."

Junior Achievement/3DE

Delta supports 31 Junior Achievement (JA) chapters across four continents, as well as the newly formed 3DE to help teach career readiness and financial literacy to students around the globe. Whether through job shadows hosted at airports or TechOps, or the storefronts we sponsor in JA BizTown and Finance Park, this partnership offers an opportunity for students to learn about business and aviation as a potential career while helping prepare them to be better financial stewards as adults.

Atlanta Public Schools

Delta is entering its third year in partnership with Atlanta Public Schools and each year approximately 250 Delta volunteers serve as Reading Buddies and TutorMate mentors to help improve third grade literacy scores in the students of two targeted schools in the south Atlanta cluster near our headquarters – Dobbs Elementary School and Hutchinson Elementary School.  In addition to the Reading Buddies program, Delta volunteers also hold events at the two schools to engage with the students in fun ways as well as hold book and coat drives each year to help meet basic needs.

National Flight Academy

Over 600 students each year attend the National Flight Academy Summer Camps thanks to Delta scholarships. Through this partnership, students from Delta community partners around the world, U.S. military dependents and Delta and JV Partner airline dependents get to spend a week of their summer at the National Flight Academy, an immersive learning adventure aboard the world's largest simulated aircraft carrier Ambition, located in Pensacola, Fla. The students get to role play as pilots and controllers, develop their skills in simulators and test their mental preparedness, communication skills and teamwork all while preparing for STEM careers.

KaBOOM!

Delta has partnered with the national nonprofit KaBOOM! to fund and build 29 playgrounds with various nonprofit partners since 2013 when the partnership began. Thousands of children now have access to play because of the work Delta volunteers have contributed. Delta has helped bring the gift of play through KaBOOM! playgrounds in Atlanta, Boston,  Detroit, Cincinnati, Durham, N.C., Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Nashville,  New York, Salt Lake City, Seattle and Washington, DC.
