Italian flair just landed in Washington..... Alitalia starts new service from Rome

The green, white and red of Italian flag carrier, Alitalia has just landed in Washington DC!

The carrier has started a new service from Rome directly to the pulsating heart of the United States, Washington DC five times a week.

And, whilst Washington is famous for its national monuments and government offices, this 68-square-mile city has so much more to offer than the White House.

The National Mall is famous or perhaps infamous for its monuments and memorials, however, it also boasts an impressive lineup of museums, fourteen at last count! Including the wonderful National Gallery of Art, that is spread out over two buildings and hosts some wonderful works of art. The National Air & Space Museum is simply a must-see attraction, then there is the National Museum of Natural History - which boasts it is the world's most visited natural history museum.  The National Museum of American History is another fine example of Americana featuring things as varied Abraham Lincoln’s stovepipe hat to Dorothy’s ruby slippers - you know from The Wizard of Oz!

The National Museum of the American Indian is another fine and stand out museum on the mall, not least for its architectural style, but also for the wonderful diversity of culture, language, history, and traditions of the indigenous people of North America.  Another key destination for tourists must also be the National Museum of African American History and Culture, it is an eye opener for sure.

Washington also has some of the finest restaurants in the country, including 16 with Michelin stars, including: Siren by RW, Bresca, Pineapple and Pearls, Kinship, Blue Duck Tavern, Plume and Masseria. But don't worry, you don't have to be a super foodie with deep pockets and more money than sense to eat out in Washington, for there are literally thousands of other great places to dine, of all styles and to suit all budgets. Lucky Buns, Beefsteak, Rasa and Little Sesame are just a couple of inexpensive eating places that toy with the tastebuds in a most delightful way.
