Gulf Air – the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain – earlier this month conducted a visit to India in order to reaffirm the longstanding relationship between the Kingdom of Bahrain and India, unveiling a series of commercial dynamic plans for the Indian markets.

A gala dinner was held in New Delhi and attended by some of India’s top travel agency owners and directors as well as H.E. Abdulrahman Mohamed Al Gaoud, Bahrain’s Ambassador to India and members of Bahrain’s diplomatic mission in New Delhi, Indian government officials, media representatives and Gulf Air commercial teams from Bahrain and India stations.

Commenting on the event, Gulf Air Chief Commercial Officer Mr Vincent Coste said “Gulf Air’s relationship with India is longstanding – dating back to our first flight to Mumbai in 1960. India remains a strategic and a key market for the airline. Moreover, our role as an airline connecting both countries is to promote The Kingdom of Bahrain as a tourist destination to the Indian market. With excellent facilities and entertainment venues, Bahrain is a very popular wedding destination for couples from India. We are here to showcase our 5-year plan and new strategy and also to deepen the airline’s partnerships with our stakeholders”.

Gulf Air is currently operating 75 weekly flights to eight destinations in India: Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Cochin, Hyderabad, Calicut and Bangalore.

Baggage increases for Athletes
Recently the carrier enhanced its baggage allowance for cyclists to include one free bicycle over and above their original ticket baggage allowance. The new policy has been introduced in response to an increasing demand from athletes who fly to attend and participate in various sport events within the global Gulf Air network, The new baggage allowance covers one bicycle, which must be packaged within a purpose-designed cover, weighing 15 kilograms or less. Earlier this month Gulf Air announced that one free golf bag would be allowed for golfers.

Gulf Air’s Chief Executive Officer Mr Krešimir Kučko said: "Gulf Air is enhancing its baggage allowance for athletes to promote a healthy lifestyle within its customer base. By allowing athletes to take their sports equipment for free – over and above their original baggage entitlement – we help make their travel logistics and journeys much easier and hassle-free”.
