Avianca Brasil pays in advance for fees to fly from Guarulhos

The troubled carrier Avianca Brasil has been granted permission to operate from Brazil’s largest airport, located in Guarulhos from today. The airport had previously stated it would only give approval for the financially struggling airline to fly there if it made an upfront payment of fees each day.

According to Reuters news agency, a source close to the matter has said Avianca Brasil has actually not only agreed to the restriction but also offered up front the airport imposed fees, as well as advance fees for the weekend and Monday as well.

The carrier had for bankruptcy protection in last December and has since then been running up debts with lessors and airport operators as it continues to carry out most of its scheduled flights. according to local media reports, the airline has been running very low on cash, so much so that staff wages for March were late in being paid.
