Buta Airways, Azerbaijan’s low-cost carrier has received another new Embraer E190 aircraft, the eighth to join the carriers fleet.
The new aircraft, arriving directly from Embraer, will allow the airline to expand its route network and flight schedule. “Adding new aircraft to the fleet will further expand the route network of Buta Airways. We are pleased that the national low-cost airline is in great demand among Azerbaijani citizens and tourists arriving in our country. The increase in the number of flights and destinations of Buta Airways will further contribute to the development of tourism in our country,” AZAL President Jahangir Asgarov said.
In typical aviation tradition, the new aircraft was welcomed at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) with a water cannon salute from the airport's fire service. Buta Airways have named its new arrival after the city of Aghdam.
One of the new routes the additional aircraft will allow the airline to start is the direct service to the Turkish capital, Ankara (ESB). Buta will start the direct service from March 31st, 2019, operating two flights per week, on Tuesdays and Sundays. Ankara will become the fourth destination in Turkey the low-cost carrier operates to, following Istanbul (SAW), Alanya (GZP) and Izmir (ADB) into the schedule.
Buta Airways was formed in December 2016 and it operated its first flight on September 1st, 2017, now the little low-cost carrier has a fleet of 8 Embraer E190 aircraft. It has a small but growing regional route network, from its home base of Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) in Baku, Buta flies to Kazan (KZN), Kyiv (IEV), Moscow (VKO), Mineralnye Vody (MRV), St Petersburg (LED), Sofia (SOF), Tbilisi (TBS), Tehran (IKA) as well as the destinations in Turkey.
