Wizz Air to open new base in Krakow and launch 12 new routes

The European budget carrier, Wizz Air, has announced this week that it will open a new base at Krakow in Poland and base 2 Airbus A321 aircraft there for the summer 2019 period.

The new base will become the fast-growing carriers 26th base and along with the establishment of the new base, Wizz Air will also start twelve new services to nine countries starting from April 2019. 

Krakow will become Wizz Air’s 26 base and its newest base in Poland next to Warsaw, Katowice, Gdansk and Wroclaw. As part of WIZZ’s expansion, the airline will continue to increase its operations in Poland to provide Polish customers with ever more travel opportunities. The base establishment in Krakow represents a $240 million investment by WIZZ in Poland and creates 80 new direct jobs with the airline and over 140 jobs in associated industries. The 2 new Airbus A321 aircraft will support the operations of twelve new routes, long-awaited by Krakow travellers services to London, Kyiv, Bari, Catania, Larnaca, Nice, Turku, Billund, Doncaster, Kharkiv, Oslo and Kutaisi.


With this announcement WIZZ now offers 188,000 seats on its 12 routes from Krakow, while in total more than 11 million seats on 166 services to and from Poland in 2019, as it aims to create more opportunities for Polish travellers and their visitors to enjoy low fares and outstanding travel experience.

WIZZ has a great number of innovative products and services enabling its passengers to best customize their journeys, all of which can be booked through Wizz Air’s easy-to-use app and website. Among the airline’s latest developments, customers can choose the Flexible Travel Partner service, whenever they want to create a new reservation without including all passengers’ names at the time of booking or secure the best fare for a period of 48 hours by selecting the Fare Lock product.

Speaking at the press conference in Krakow, Stephen Jones, Executive Vice President and Deputy CEO at Wizz Air said: ”Today’s announcement underlines our commitment to Poland, our first market where we have launched operations back in 2004. We chose Krakow to be our newest base in Poland as we see the potential and the demand for low cost travel in this city which is one of the most popular tourist destinations as well as a rapidly developing business hub. Our newest base opens on 1 May 2019, with 80 new jobs directly with Wizz Air and starting next year we will offer 12 new and exciting routes. One of the new routes will be a double daily service to London's Luton airport, another will see the introduction of a three times a week service to Doncaster.  Oslo will have a daily service from the new Krakow base and there are also services to Kiev four times a week, Nice in France twice weekly, Billund in Denmark sees two flights a week.
