A UK bound commercial passenger aircraft was intercepted and shadowed by a French Air Force fighter jet in an unnecessary act of aggression yesterday.

The airline, Jet2 has asked for official clarification from the French why its aircraft was targeted in such a manner that it caused anxiety, dismay and alarm among some of the passengers onboard.

Passengers were travelling to Birmingham from Malaga on the Jet2 Flight LS1204 on Friday when they became aware of the French fighter jet getting so close to the passenger aircraft, some could see the small print on the fighter's tail.

Terrified passengers

"Someone spotted the French jet and told the cabin crew, who I presume told the Jet2 pilots. The air stewardess then announced there was nothing to worry about." Sarah Hatfield, one of the passengers on the flight told the media.  Sarah was travelling with her daughter, Emily and her husband Ian and said the French military jet shadowed them for around fifteen minutes.

"Ian was terrified" she said, "It was so close I could read the writing on its tail fin. The feeling on board was a mixture of excitement at seeing the fighter so close up and terror as to if we were about to get shot down."

"We are awaiting clarification from the French air traffic authorities, as to why a military aircraft was apparently tracking our aircraft". A spokesperson for Jet2 said.
