Codeshare for Avianca and Singapore Airlines Plus More Euro Expansion.

Avianca and Singapore Airlines  have signed a codeshare agreement which will allow both airlines to codeshare their flights from and to Barcelona and London Heathrow from next month.

The new agreement will offer Avianca’s passengers many more options to connect to the vibrant gateway to Southern Asia - Singapore.  And from there, passengers will be able to fly to dozens of destinations from the impressive Changi International Airport, with Singapore Airlines.

Avianca will include its ‘AV’ code on flights operated by Singapore Airlines on the London – Singapore – London and Barcelona – Singapore – Barcelona. Likewise, the Asian airline will add its ‘SQ’ code to flights operated by Avianca on the London – Bogota – London and Barcelona – Bogota

These codeshare flights will be available to book in the next few days for travel from September 2017 and thereafter.  The new deal will also enable passengers the opportunity to earn  air miles on either airlines frequent flyer programs - KrisFlyer for Singapore Airlines and LifeMiles for Avianca.

“This codeshare agreement with Singapore Airlines allows us to expand our route network and offer our clients a more complete connection with the world, maintaining the word-class standards of service that characterize the airline members of Star Alliance”, said Avianca’s CEO and Executive President, Hernan Rincon.

On its part, Mr. Tan Kai Ping, Executive Vice President of Marketing Planning for Singapore Airlines said “this new codeshare agreement with our Star Alliance partner, Avianca, will offer our clients, both business and pleasure, more and transparent connections with Latin America”.

By entering into this agreement, Avianca adds an internationally recognized connecting partner. Singapore Airlines was recently awarded the Skytrax 2017 award for “Best Airline in Asia” and “Best Business Class Experience in the world”. The Singaporean airline has one of the youngest and most robust fleets in the world, including Airbus A380s, Boeing B777s and Airbus A350s. This combined with Avianca´s Boeing B787 Dreamliner aircraft, wich serve these routes, offers customers a unique onboard experience in state-of-the-art equipment.

In addition to the codeshare deal with Singapore Airlines, Avianca is looking to expand its destinations in Europe, with two new routes expected to be announced within the next couple of months.

For the moment the airline remains tight-lipped about where they will fly to next, but a German city like Frankfurt or Munich are favourites.  It's believed they are considering Rome, Paris and Milan.  A decision is expected to be made shortly and their fourth European destination will see flights starting towards the end of this year.

One of the reasons why Avianca is looking to add another European route or two in the near future is the growth potential and popularity. The carrier's existing  European routes perform the best of their network with a load factor of over 85perscent.

Avianca is also expanding its reach in South America, launching  non-stop services between Bogota and Santa Cruz  and between Lima and Cordoba, subject to authority approval, the services should start in October and November respectively.
