SkyWork Airlines bankrupt

The small regional airline based in Bern Switzerland, SkyWork, has declared bankruptcy leaving the travel plans of some 11,000 people who had booked with the airline, in tatters.

The airline took the decision to end operations on the evening of the 28th August after failing to find another financial backer to invest in the company and underwrite its operations.  The airline issued a brief statement,  "SkyWork Airlines has stopped operations with immediate effect. We would like to thank you for your loyalty during the past seven years."

The Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation stated, "Bernese Regional Air Line Skywork Airlines AG ceased operation with immediate effect due to economic reasons. 11’000 passengers, which made bookings, are affected by the cease of operation."  It advises that if passengers of Skywork Airlines booked direct with the airline, or via an online flight booking site they should contact the administrators/liquidators with their claims as soon as possible. If people had booked with a travel agency in Switzerland they should contact that travel agent.

Vienna to Basel New Route for SkyWork

European carrier SkyWork Airlines launched a new route on Monday from its Vienna base to Basel. "In addition to Bern, SkyWork Airlines now serves a second destination from Vienna. Thanks to its contemporary architecture and multifaceted culture, Basel, Switzerland’s third largest city, is especially popular for city breaks", says Julian Jäger, Member of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG. "The additional destination confirms our good cooperation with the airline and the importance of flight connections between Austria and Switzerland. On balance, Vienna Airport now offers five destinations and 152 weekly flight connections to Switzerland" he adds.
