The premier full-service Icelandic airliner, Icelandair released its May figures recently which demonstrated a massive increase in passenger numbers over the same period last year.
The number of passenger on international flights was 367 thousand in May and increased by 10% compared to May last year. The capacity increased by 15% and the passenger load factor was 77.7% compared to 81.2% in May last year. The number of passengers on domestic and regional flights were around 27 thousand, decreasing by 7% compared to May last year.
Flights to Belfast, Aberdeen and between Keflavik and Akureyri stopped mid of May, explaining the reduction in the number of passengers. The passenger load factor was 62.0%. Sold block hours in charter flights increased significantly, or by 40% between years, as a result of new long-term assignments. Freight increased by 11%. The number of available room nights at the Company’s Hotels was up by 6% from last year, mainly due to the opening of Reykjavik Konsulat Hotel in the centre of Reykjavik in March. The room occupancy was 72.8% compared to 77.0% in May 2017.
